Christmas is coming, and only 9 days are left in the year 2023.

I would like to talk about year-end and new-year holiday.

 

In Japan, the period of holiday is generally from 29th December to 3rd January, or from 30th Decenber to 4th January.

In Christlan countries, on the other hand, 25th December is a holiday, and a lot of workers take days-off until 1st January.

In East Asia, people celebrate Lunar New Year, which begins from 7th to 10th February in 2024. The start day differs depending on the country.

 

Even with something as simple as year-end and new-year holiday, the period varies as such. There are more differences among different cultures.

Sometimes ignorance of cultural differences may affect the business and human relationship, so it is important to know cultural differences of the business partners and employees in starting business abroad.

クリスマスも近づき、2023年も残すところあと8日となりました。

今回は、年末年始休暇についてお話ししたいと思います。

 

日本では、年末年始休暇は12月29日～1月3日、もしくは12月30日～1月4日が一般的です。

一方欧米では12月25日はクリスマスで祝日ですし、1月1日まで休暇を取る人が多いようです。

また、東アジア諸国では太陰暦による旧正月を祝うところが多いです。国によって異なりますが、2024年は2月7日～10日の間に始まるようです。

 

年末年始一つとっても地域によって時期がこれだけ違います。異なる文化圏同士ではもっと多くの違いがあります。

このような文化的違いを知らずに行動すると、時にはビジネスや人間関係に対して悪影響を及ぼすこともあります。

海外関係のビジネスを立ち上げるときは、相手や従業員の文化的背景の違いを知っておくことが大切ですね。
